Employee Free Choice Act Goes to Congress Soon

In the latest issue of Union Action, postcards to support the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act were inserted. We asked that faculty sign the postcards and return them through interoffice mail to AFT 2121 at 31 Gough Street. The postcards have begun to arrive, and we have received a good number so far. But we need many more postcards soon, and here’s why:

AFT officers made a visit to the San Francisco District Office of Senator Dianne Feinstein last week to lobby for the Employee Free Choice Act. We told her legislative aide that this bill will level the playing field for workers to begin increasing union strength across America. Although in the past she has sponsored similar bills, so far Senator Feinstein has not yet decided to either co-sponsor the bill or to support it. An alert from the national AFT indicates that the EFCA may come before Congress as early as mid-March. The plan now is for AFT 2121 to bring the postcards directly to Senator Feinstein’s office to let her know that there is widespread support for the Employee Free Choice Act in this area.

If you need postcards at your site, please take the initiative and call the office at 415-585-2121 or email emurray@aft2121.com. Also, please consider organizing the effort at your site by offering to collect postcards from your collegues and relay them to the Union. Let’s do our part to rebuild the American union movement.
