JAD Renovation Takes Turn for the Worse

Chancellor Griffin and AFT respond

Faculty at the John Adams Campus moved back to the half-renovated JAD building this semester only to find intolerable working conditions. Excessive noise, fumes, and poor ventilation prompted faculty and AFT to demand corrective action. An AFT grievance targeted these conditions and demanded restoration of double-hung windows which had been scrapped during reconstruction to save money. Faculty turned out for site meetings to voice their concerns. Union representatives, the Chancellor, and other managers grappled with the problem and came up with solutions including restoration of double-hung windows, lowering the speed of noisy building exhaust fans, rebalancing the ventilation system and providing for in-classroom ability to adjust the system.
